Seeded for the first time at a Grand Slam, Casey Dellacqua has moved in to the second round of the US Open with victory over Patricia Mayr-Achleitner.
The Australian powered to a 7-5 6-3 in 88 minutes to set up a clash with Chinese qualifier, Qiang Wang.
Dellacqua has enjoyed a rise up the WTA rankings this year but is determined not to alter her focus.
“Obviously there’s no doubt having that seed is a huge advantage, but it certainly doesn’t mean that I go about anything differently. I still have to prepare as I do for every other match,” she said.
“I know it’s so cliche but it is kind of just a number.
“I just want to win as many matches as I can and I was really happy that I was able to get through that one today.”
Wang, the world number 139, is a player Dellacqua admits she knows little about.
“Absolutely zero. I didn’t know much about Patricia either, so my coach will hopefully get lots of footage and we’ll have a plan.”
Dellacqua and fellow Australian Ash Barty will pair on Wednesday in the women’s doubles. Seeded 10th, they take on Gabriela Dabrowski and Alicja Rosolska as the second match on Court 8.
