September 1, 2019

John Peers’ US Open assault has come to an end in a tough three-set loss at Flushing Meadows today.

Peers and doubles partner Henri Kontinen took on highly-regarded pairing Leonardo Mayer and Joao Sousa in the second round of the Open.

It was a tight through the third, with Mayer and Sousa eventually taking the win 7-4 in  a tiebreak.

Peers’ mixed doubles run alongside Zhang Shuai also came to an end on Sunday.

Peers and Zhang went down to Jamie Murray and Bethanie Mattek-Sands 4-6 7-6 7-10. Peers and Zhang levelled in a tiebreak in the second before going down in the deciding super tiebreak.
