Peers gets Davis Cup call up ahead of Dubai semifinal
John Peers has made a strong start to his US Open campaign, claiming an impressive three-set win in the first round.
Peers and his doubles partner Henri Kontinen faced a tough battle against Santiago Gonzalez and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi to open the tournament.
They found themselves under pressure when they lost the first set but fought back to take the second in a tie break before closing it out.
The 5-7 7-6 (4) 6-3 victory sets up a second round showdown with Leonardo Mayer and Joao Sousa.
