Kevin Moore has continued his rich vein of form by collecting another accolade during the Australian Athletics Championships held in Melbourne over the weekend.
At the Lakeside Stadium on Sunday, Moore made it two national records in as many months by winning his 200m heat in 21.26. His time shaved 0.13 off his previous best of 21.39 which he set in January 2012.
“I’m really pleased with my new national record,” Moore said.
“My performance takes even greater significance as I clocked the time in a headwind. This shows that I can improve further in favourable conditions.
Moore, who is eyeing a place in Malta’s athletics team for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, ran 21.34 in the 200m final to claim Bronze behind Western Australia’s Mangar Makut Chuot (21.08) and New Zealand’s Joseph Millar (21.25).
“This result is a morale-booster for me as I continue my preparations to represent Malta at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland in July.”
The 23-year-old also set a national best for Malta in the 100m last month by running 10.50 seconds at the Sydney Track Classic.
At the Sydney Olympic Park Centre, Moore stopped the clock at 10.50 seconds to beat the previous record held by Darren Francis Gilford which stood at 10.54 seconds.
