Australian number 3 seed Matthew Ebden moved within one win of the gold medal match after recording a tight three set victory over England’s Josh Goodall. In the hot and humid Delhi conditions Ebden prevailed 6-7 6-1 7-6 in just under 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Goodall played exceptionally well throughout the tight encounter and served consistently throughout the match. However, Ebden was able to hold his nerve in the third set tiebreak and continued his impressive singles performance thus far at the Games.
Ebden now plays top seeded Indian Somdev Devvarman at 4.30pm AEST today. If victorious, Ebden will move through to the playoff for the Commonwealth Games gold medal, where he would play either Peter Luczak or Greg Jones. Ironically it is Luczak and Jones, both from Australia, who have been sharing an apartment with Ebden in the Athletes Village throughout the Games.
Ebden has thrived when representing his country this week and we wish him well for his match this afternoon.
