Alex Beck is officially headed to the IAAF World Championships in Moscow later this year with Athletics Australia selectors today confirming his selection to the Australian Flame team.
Following his national title win over the weekend in Sydney, Beck has confirmed his seat on the plane to Russia, along with the addition of 24 other Australians.
Ben Offereins has also made the 4 x 400m team after his 3rd place finish in the 400m final at the Australian Athletics Championships at the weekend.
Chair of National Selection Committee Dion Russell made the announcement:
“I would like to congratulate all the automatically selected athletes on their performances in Sydney last weekend. As of today, we now have 25 athletes confirmed as competing at the World Championships.
“The intention of the Selection Policy for the IAAF World Championships is to select the strongest possible team to represent Australia, and following the Qantas Australian Athletics Championships and Selection Trial across the weekend it is exciting to announce the automatic selection of athletes to the Australian Flame Team for Moscow,” he said.
The Athletics Australia Selectors will meet again in mid-May to discuss final selections ahead of the close of the IAAF Qualification Period on 29 July 2013.
The 2013 IAAF World Championships, the 14th instalment of the event, will be held in Moscow on 10-18 August 2013.
