John Peers and Jordan Thompson have combined for a thrilling doubles win against the world No.1 Colombian pairing as Australia claimed a 3-0 win in their Davis Cup Finals opener in Madrid.
Peers and Thompson saved four match points in the epic 6-3 3-6 7-6(6) result against Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal.
The Australian duo found themselves 2-6 down in the final set tiebreak before surging back with the next six points to claim the memorable victory and the perfect start for the Australians.
Earlier, Nick Kyrgios gave his nation the ideal start, serving brilliantly in a 6-4 6-4 win over Alejandro Gonzalez.
Australian No.1 Alex de Minaur then ensured the tie victory with a 6-4 6-3 win over Daniel Galan.
After Peers hailed the strong bond in the squad, the passion of the Australians was there for all to see.

Kyrgios was bullish about their chances of winning the Davis Cup.
“I think we can win it for sure,” he said. “The way that Alex is playing and I know I can beat every single person in this competition.
“We have a great doubles player in John Peers and Jordan (Thompson) can play singles or doubles.
“Then we have great energy guys like John Millman so we have good depth. I think our chemistry compared to the other teams is up there.
“It’s early days but we are delighted with the win.”
The Australians take on Belgium in the early hours of Thursday morning.
