Ryan Bailie will race in Hamburg this weekend in the latest round of the ITU World Triathlon Series, just two weeks out from the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Bailie, 23, will line up in the Elite individual sprint race on Saturday, covering a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run.
At the last sprint race in London, the Australian finished an impressive seventh, running toe-to-toe with the sport’s biggest hitters in Javier Gomez, Mario Mola, Richard Murray, Jonathan Brownlee and Alistair Brownlee.
“The sprint race in London was a great race for me, and I’m looking forward to another sprint distance in Hamburg on the weekend,” Bailie said.
Bailie, current ranked at No. 6 on the ITU World rankings, skipped the ITU race in Chicago two weeks ago to focus on a block of training in Spain’s Basque country in Vitoria.
The Australian forms part of the Wollongong Wizards training group under the watchful eye of coach Jamie Turner.
“We’ve really knuckled down over the last six weeks after the race in London.
“It’s the last race before Glasgow so our preparation has been focused on the next month of racing,” Bailie said.
The men’s individual sprint race is scheduled for 6.18pm local time on Saturday (02.18am AEST, Sunday).
Race updates will be posted via the Sam Maxwell Sports Management Twitter Account.
