Australian 400 metre runner Alex Beck will compete in the 4x400m relay heats later tonight at Hampden Park in Glasgow.
The Australian team are looking to make it three straight relay Gold medals, following from their victories in Delhi 2010 and Melbourne 2006.
“This is my first Commonwealth Games so I’m obviously very excited and thrilled to be running for Australia,” Beck said.
“I’m really looking forward to competing with the rest of the boys, and hopefully we can continue Australia’s dominance in the event.
Beck will join John Steffensen, Craig Burns and Ian Dewhurst in the Australian team, with injuries to Tristan Thomas and London Olympic 400m finalist Steve Solomon preventing the pair from making it to the start line.
Solomon re-injured his troublesome hamstring while running the 400m semi final on Wednesday, while Thomas was ruled out prior to the Games.
With three heats scheduled, the first two nations across the line in each heat, plus the next two fastest, will progress to Saturday’s final.
The announcement of Australia’s heat and lane draw, as well as race results, will be posted via the Sam Maxwell Sports Management Twitter Account.
