Peers gets Davis Cup call up ahead of Dubai semifinal
Matt Ebden’s Australian Open campaign has ended in disappointment, bowing out to an injury-plagued Vasek Pospisil in the second round.
Ebden came out firing to claim the first set but couldn’t sustain the consistency against the 28th seeded Canadian, falling in four sets on Rod Laver Arena, 3-6 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (11-9) 6-1.
The match was a tale of missed opportunities for the West Australian as he squandered set points in both the second and third set tie-breaks, as well as having break points at 4-all in the second set.
For Ebden, focus now shifts to the doubles and mixed doubles events where he will play with James Duckworth and Jarmila Gajdosova respectively.
