The career best form of John Peers has been rewarded with the Australian picked by Lleyton Hewitt in the Davis Cup squad for the upcoming tie against the United States.
The 27-year-old has made no secret of his desire to represent his county and is coming off a successful 2015 where he made two grand slam finals and reached a career high of number seven in the world.
“I’m honoured to be named in the Davis Cup team and I look forward to making a contribution in any way I can,” Peers said.
“It’s always been my dream to represent Australia in Davis Cup and wear the green and gold.
“I’d like to thank Lleyton for his confidence in me and can’t wait to make the most of this tremendous opportunity.”
Australia take on the United States in the first round of the World Group at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club from 4 – 6 March.
Also named in the Australian team were Nick Kyrgios, Bernard Tomic and Sam Groth.
