Mainstone takes bronze in Hong Kong World Cup race

October 6, 2013

West Australian open water swimmer Rhys Mainstone has finished third in the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup in Hong Kong.

Mainstone, who won the race last year, finished in 1:53:35.6 just behind Frenchman Romain Beraud (1:53:35.5). Mainstone, who is coached by Mel Tantrum at UWA Uniswim, was closely followed by fellow West Australian Simon Huitenga, who improved on his ninth placing last year, finishing fourth in 1:53:35.7.

Brazil continued to show its force in the open water with Samuel De Bona taking gold in the men’s race and Poliana Okimoto winning the women’s event.
