Andrew Harris has booked his place in the second round of the Apis Canberra International after coming from a set down to make a winning start to this 2020 season.
Harris beat Romanian Marius Copil 4-6 7-5 7-6 (7) on centre court today to book a showdown with Russia’s Evgeny Donskoy on Wednesday.
The Canberra ATP Challenger event was relocated to Bendigo due to the bushfire crisis that has engulfed much of NSW and the ACT.
Harris was then able to make the two-hour drive to Bendigo, rather than the longer trip to Canberra after a productive pre-season in Melbourne.
Matt Edben went down 6-2 6-4 to American Mitchell Krueger in his first round match as he looks to work into the new season after making an early end to his 2019.
Ebden is due to play doubles with Robert Lindstedt against Harris and Akira Santillan on Tuesday.
Storm Sanders’ brilliant qualifying run at Brisbane also ended just one win short of the main draw in her 7-6 (7) 6-1 loss to American No.4 seed Jennifer Brady.
Sanders will play doubles with Priscilla Hon against Barbora Strycova and Hsieh Su-wei on Wednesday.
