If Matt Ebden wants to continue his rise in the world rankings, it’s opportunities like tonight’s US Open first round clash against Grigor Dimitrov that he can make the most of.
2015 has been a big year for the West Australian.
Ebden has overcome injury and illness to see his ranking climb more than 200 places to just outside the top 100.
His year to date is highlighted by two wins on the Challenger circuit and an impressive second round display at Wimbledon.
But this isn’t enough to satisfy the former world number 61.
After breezing through qualifying for the US Open in stunning fashion, Ebden gets the chance to prove he can take it to the world’s best tonight.
Gregor Dimitrov is ranked 17 in the world and will go in as overwhelming favourite but Ebden believes he can not just take compete with the big hitting man from Belarus, but indeed beat him.
So what has been the turnaround?
How do you go from the world’s top 60 to outside the top 350 and back again?
In an exclusive Q&A Ebden sat down with Matt Trollope from Tennis Australia to discuss his year to date, his past struggles and the upcoming US Open.
