Peers gets Davis Cup call up ahead of Dubai semifinal
Australian Matt Ebden has gone down in the first round of the Portugal Open against Somdev Devvarman, 6-2 6-3.
The tournament, held in the Oeiras municipality near Lisbon is one of several lead-up events to next month’s French Open.
It was better news in the doubles, with the 26 year-old teaming with Russian Dmitry Tursunov to record a first round 6-2 6-2 win against Jonathon Erlich and fellow Australian Paul Hanley.
Ebden and Tursunov will face fourth seeds Frantisek Cermak and Mikhail Elgin in the second round tomorrow.
Following Portugal, Ebden will head to Nice in the south of France to play the clay event before the French Open begins on May 25.
