Casey Dellacqua was clinical in her first round Wimbledon encounter, racing through her match against Tamira Paszek in just 55 minutes, setting up a clash with 17th seed Elina Svitolina.
After starting her Wimbledon campaign with a doubles win yesterday, Dellacqua was dominant from the outset, breaking serve twice in the first three games.
“I thought I played really well. I’ve been hitting the ball fantastic and I wanted to get out there and try and execute well tactically,” the West Australian said.
“I had a really clear game plan so I think that really helped me. When you step out on court, you feel comfortable with what you need to do and just focus on execution.
Hitting 19 winners in the straight set victory, Dellacqua moved freely out on Cout 16
Despite being ranked over 100 places higher in the world Dellacqua was wary of taking things lightly against an experienced Paszek, a former world #26 who is on the comeback from injury.
“I was so up for this match because when you make two quarter-finals of a grand slam, you’re obviously a pretty good player, and on this surface.
“So I was ready for this match and I had to take confidence from the fact I play really well on this surface too.
“I thought it was pretty clean.”
Dellacqua faces a tough challenge in the secod round against Svitolina, who defeated world number 94 Misaki Doi in three tough sets.
The 20 year old from the Ukraine is one of the most exciting players coming through on tour and is coming off an excellent result at the French Open where she made the quarter finals.
It will be the first time the pair have met.
