Jason Behrendorff has thrown his support behind a WA T20 Charity Match to raise funds for the bushfire relief.
The match, dubbed Boundaries 4 Bushfires, will be staged at the WACA Ground on February 7 and feature Behrendorff and Andrew Tye as coaches.
Retired Perth Wildcat Greg Hire put the call out on Twitter for support for the idea and Behrendorff immediately offered a helping hand.
Behrendorff said he and Hire had previously spoken about the possibility of a charity match even before the terrible bushfires that are affecting much of the nation.
“It’s a really exciting initiative and something that I’m really proud that we could get off the ground in such a short period of time,” Behrendorff said.
“It’s awesome to see how everyone rallies around such an amazing cause. People have been helping out in one way, shape or form. Greg has an amazing network as well.”
Behrendorff, who is continuing rehab from back surgery, said the details of who would be in the teams were still to be finalised but would feature a mix of sporting stars and media personalities.
“I’m reaching out to a few ex players to see if they want to be involved,” Behrendorff said.
“We are looking at a vast network of sporting and media personalities to be involved in the game.
“It’s not really about the cricket. It’s about a WA event to get behind an Australian cause so that’s why it’s called Boundaries 4 Bushfires. We want WA to get involved, not just the cricket fraternity and the cricket family.
“We’d love everyone to come down and support. It’s such an amazing thing to get behind and everyone is doing their own parts throughout the country and this is our little thing to hopefully provide a little bit of entertainment for people but also raise some much-needed funds for people who need it at the moment.”
