Team Australia have surged into the inaugural ATP Cup finals after a memorable 3-0 win over Canada in Brisbane on Sunday.
Germany’s 2-1 win over Greece on Sunday night confirmed the Australians as the first team to qualify for the final eight in Sydney.
It came after John Millman stepped up in the opening singles for Nick Kyrgios, who missed the match due a back injury.
Millman rose to the challenge in front of his home crowd against Felix Auger Aliassime, putting the locals 1-0 up with a 6-4 6-2 victory.
Alex de Minuar then stepped out against Denis Shapovalov. After the losing the first set in a tiebreak and going down a break in the second, the Australian No.1 fought back to claim the 6-7 (6) 6-4 6-2 win and seal the tie.
John Peers and Chris Guccione also had to recover from a set down against the Canadian pairing of Auger Aliassime and Adil Shamasdin before finishing the 3-0 clean sweep with the 3-6 7-6 (3) 10-8 triumph in a deciding super tiebreak.
CLEAN SWEEP for Australia, and with a point like this to finish!
