Peers gets Davis Cup call up ahead of Dubai semifinal
John Peers’ US Open assault has come to an end in a tough three-set loss at Flushing Meadows today.
Peers and doubles partner Henri Kontinen took on highly-regarded pairing Leonardo Mayer and Joao Sousa in the second round of the Open.
Peers and Kontinen took the first set 6-3 but Mayer and Sousa took the second 6-3 to take it to a decider.
It was a tight through the third, with Mayer and Sousa eventually taking the win 7-4 in a tiebreak.
Peers’ mixed doubles run alongside Zhang Shuai also came to an end on Sunday.
Peers and Zhang went down to Jamie Murray and Bethanie Mattek-Sands 4-6 7-6 7-10. Peers and Zhang levelled in a tiebreak in the second before going down in the deciding super tiebreak.
