Matt Ebden’s run of red hot form has been rewarded with a prize wildcard for the men’s singles at Wimbledon.
The 27 year old who is awaiting a semi-final clash at the Aegon Ilkley Trophy said it was a tremendous honour.
“I’m really appreciative of the All England Club for the wild card” Ebden said.
“I received the call yesterday from [Tournament Referee] Andrew Jarrett just after I got off court in Ilkley and was really excited.
“I love playing on grass and this time of year in the UK is by far one of my favourites.”
After battling a series of injuries over the past 18 months, Ebden is beginning to rediscover his form of 2013 which saw him rise to a career high ranking of #61 in the world.
“I feel like I have been playing some consistent tennis in the last month and have played a lot of matches.”
Ebden has made at least the quarter finals of his past six tournaments.
His consistency was rewarded with a win at the Aegon Surbiton Trophy last week.
“While the win in Surbiton was great, I feel like I have been able to string matches together back-to-back and have been playing at a good level.”
It will be the Australian’s fourth appearance in the main draw at the All England Club, where he will be a busy man after also receiving a wildcard into the men’s doubles.
“Wimbledon has so much history and tradition and I can’t wait to get out there.”
