Nathan Coulter-Nile, still an uncapped player at international level but named in the national squad this week for ODI and T20 games against the West Indies has been caught up in a bidding war between the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals for his services in the next IPL tournament.
Mumbai last week won the bidding war with a final offer of $US450,000 ($A436,000).
Coulter-Nile proceeded to dominate this week’s Sheffield Shield clash against the Queensland Bulls, carving a career-best 6-84 (match figures of 9-125) and leading the Warriors to a 99-run win, keeping alive WA’s faint hopes in the competition.
It was a performance that had cricketing great and teammate Mike Hussey lauding the 25-year-old as a Test-quality paceman and then national selectors added him to today’s squad for the final ODI against the West Indies in Melbourne, as well as Wednesday’s Twenty20 International between the sides in Brisbane.
“I was at the game (the fourth ODI in Sydney on Friday) and just being around it, it’s hard to describe, but it was a little bit awkward, I guess,” he said.
“I didn’t really quite feel a part of it, but if I get a game, then that’s a chance to show that I do belong here and hopefully I can grab that opportunity.”
