Peers gets Davis Cup call up ahead of Dubai semifinal
World #165 Matthew Ebden, seeded third in the Commonwealth Games, made a winning start to his singles campaign with a routine 6-3 6-2 win over Patrick Ogier of Guernsey. While stating that the temperature on court was rather warm, Ebden was upbeat after his match and was looking forward to his next round.
“We’re wet and sweaty, but it’s not too bad. It’s the heat, the courts are bouncy, but it’s all about getting used to the conditions. Hopefully it’ll get better from here.”
Ebden also moved through to the second round of the men’s doubles with partner Greg Jones over night with a 6-1 6-over the Uruguay pairing of Duncan Mugabe and Robert Buyinza.
