Victorian Olivia Rogowska was unable to reach her maiden Grand Slam third round after falling frustratingly short against world No. 47 Elina Svitolina 6-4 7-5.
”There was probably one rally which changed the whole match,” said the Australian after the match.
At 4-3 and deuce in the first set, Rogowska admitted she had a ‘sitter’ on top of the net that she missed.
‘I had a sitter on top of the net but I went for a bit too much and I tried not to react when I missed it, but I was disappointed with myself and obviously got off the game plan and started playing a bit more erratic.
She recovered in the second set from 1-4 down to level the match at 5-5 but couldn’t capitalize and take the match in to a decider.
Still, Rogowska has a lot of positive to take from her Open campaign.
“I’m happy I can match it up to a top-50 player.”
She will now look to try and cement herself in the top 100.
”I got pretty close last year, so I’m going to try and approach it a bit differently this time … last time I focused too much on the points and got a bit tight when I had a few matches that gave me an opportunity to break [the] top hundred.”
