Matthew Ebden has won his second Davis Cup rubber in as many days by defeating Chinese Taipei’s No. 2 Tsung-Hua Yang 6-1 6-2. Ebden’s win in the dead fifth rubber has given Australia a 5-0 clean sweep in Asia-Oceania zonal match in Kaohsiung.
Lleyton Hewitt paired with Chris Guccione in the doubles on Saturday, ousting Hsien Yin Peng and Hisn-Han Lee 7-6(6) 6-4 6-2, giving Australia an unassailable 3-0 rubber lead in the tie.
The win sees Australia advance to the semi-finals of the Asia-Oceania Group I where they will face Uzbekistan after they defeated China 4 rubbers to 1. The semi-final against Uzbekistan will be played 5-7th April. Should Australia triumph in that tie, they will face another World Group play-off tie to be played in September.
