Davis Cup squad member Matt Ebden will this morning play his first match at the Australian Open Wildcard Playoff at Melbourne Park.
As the fourth seed Ebden received a first round bye and will play Ben Mitchell who yesterday defeated Maverick Banes 6-4 6-3.
Mitchell was this year a Wimbledon Boy’s finalist and has enjoyed a stellar end to 2010.
The match will be second on court 5 and will be streamed live via the Tennis Australia website.
After qualifying for the Australian Open earlier this year Ebden is looking to attain automatic entry in to the 2011 event by winning this week’s tournament.
“I’m pretty confident because I’m on court against guys I’ve played before and practiced with,” Ebden said.
“Right now, the format is a knockout, so you have to go out and put your best on show. Like always with every match we play, it’s no different. We play to win.”
