Casey Dellacqua is primed for the US Open after a stellar effort in Cincinnati, making it to the women’s doubles final.
Once again the Australian left hander teamed with Yaroslava Shvedova in doubles, falling just short of their second title in only their 6th tournament appearance together.
After notching three impressive wins to make the final, the pair fell to Taiwanese sisters Hao-Ching Chan and Yung-Jan Chan, who showed they were on a golden run with a huge upset over Wimbledon champs, Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza in the semi final.
It makes it three finals from six tournaments together and moves Dellacqua and Shvedova to 5th in the race to the season ending WTA Finals in Singapore.
With Shvedova heading to New York early for US Open qualifying, Dellacqua will partner Hao-Chin Chan in New Haven.
Dellacqua’s week in singles in Cincinnati got off to a good start with two wins in qualifying, including a gritty three set victory over 6th seed and world number 48 Mirjana Luci-Baroni, to earn her place in the main the main draw.
However a tough three set loss to world number 58 Mona Barthel, 7-4 in the third set tiebreak, ended her singles campaign.
