Australia’s premier female 400m runner Jody Henry joined Olympic and World Champion Steve Hooker on Saturday to launch the all new Australian Athletics Tour for 2011.
With almost half a million dollars in prize money to be awarded to Australia’s top track and field athletes, the 2011 season will comprise four competition rounds as well as a two-day final in Perth, where four Tour champions will be crowned in the sprints/hurdles, jumps, throws and distance divisions.
In an exciting announcement for Perth-based athletes and fans, the State Government of Western Australia announced last week that it will support the all-new Tour final, to be held at the Western Australian Athletics Stadium from April 1 to 2.
The Tour final will be a feature of next year’s stellar domestic athletics schedule, where a record $430,000 will be up for grabs for participating athletes.
Winners of each of the four divisions – sprints/hurdles, jumps, throws and distance – will receive $10,000 cash, with further prize money to be awarded to the top six placegetters in each points race.
